Highly appreciated by trekkers, beers and sodas are enjoyed in the last rays of sunlight, after a long day’s walk, while taking in the vast landscape from a lodge terrace.
Yet for this moment to exist, men continue to work extremely hard. Some carry food and goods in large wicker baskets, supplying the lodges along steep mountain trails.
Taking this transport work away from them would be unthinkable, as it represents their main livelihood. When the idea of replacing human porters with mules or helicopter flights arose, strikes broke out.
