Photo 14 - Sherpas entering Khumjung

Two Sherpas, carrying corrugated metal sheets for a roof construction, enter the village of Khumjung.

On the right, one can see a large square that serves as the courtyard of Khumjung School, funded by Sir Edmund Hillary.

In the distance, to the left, a magnificent stupa marks the center of the village, the birthplace of Tenzing Norgay, the first Nepali climber to summit Mount Everest with the New Zealander Sir Edmund Hillary on May 29, 1953.
